A Child of the King
Good Morning!
John 1:9-13 English
Standard Version (ESV)
9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the
world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the
world did not know him. 11 He came to his own,[a] and his
own people[b] did not
receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he
gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were
born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of
man, but of God.
Footnotes:
John 1:11 Greek to
his own things; that is, to his own domain, or to his own people
John 1:11 People is implied in Greek
I am a creation of God. Yes, my mother and father came together and the
result was me … but long before they came together, God knew me (see Psalms
139). And the creation fact presented in
that Psalm is true for all. But I am
also a child of God, having chosen to receive Christ Jesus as my Lord and my
Savior. Not all who have been born have
made this choice … and in doing so, they have chosen to not be a child of God.
My prayer as I prepare
these notes of encouragement is that all who read these have made the choice to
receive Christ and are children of God.
You see, our trust in God is not about religion … it is about a
relationship. God created Adam with a
desire for a relationship. He saw humans
as the crown of His glorious creation … giving us the privilege of communication.
He gave us dominion over all of His
creation. His desire was that we would
desire to know and to acknowledge Him.
He still has that desire for EVERY human – regardless of our sinfulness.
He offers every one the opportunity to hear the message of Christ and to
believe.
Would you search your
heart today? Would you, for your own
assurance, ask God to let you know your relationship with Him? Ask Him … am I a child or just a
creation? And, then, thank God for His
mercy and His grace .
Well, the weekend is upon
us. God bless you this weekend.

Prayer: Thank
You, dear Father, for including this sinner as one of Your children. Thank You for the privileges that come with
that relationship. Help me become a good son, bringing glory to You and to Your
Name in all that I say and do. In Jesus’ Name … Amen.
