Good Morning!
Today will be a busy day
for most of us … some will be finishing their shopping; others will be heading
out to a destination for the holiday; and others will be gathering with family
and friends. I fall in the latter group …
as our Christmas celebration will take place around 10 a.m. this morning. Several years ago, Norma and I chose to have
Christmas early so our adult children could celebrate Christmas on Christmas
day.
It is a little hard to
think that this is my third Christmas alone … but I am okay and will be okay. I remain thankful for the many Christmases my
sweetheart and I had together (51 altogether).
God blesses me beyond any expectation I could ever have.
I have a hard time picking
out a favorite Christmas carol. I do lean toward the older traditional carols …
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing!; Silent Night; Go, Tell It on the Mountain; and
so on. Today I want to focus on the
following:
O come,
all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
come and behold him born the King of angels;
Refrain:
O come, let us adore him; O come, let us adore him;
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation,
sing, all ye citizens of heav'n above;
glory to God, all glory in the highest; [Refrain]
Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy
morning:
Jesus, to thee be all glory giv'n;
Word of the Father, late in flesh appearing; [Refrain]
And
they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.
And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them
concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told
them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And
the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, - Luke 2:16-20 ESV
This evening (5 p.m.), Helen
First Baptist will gather together for our Christmas Eve celebration. Our desire
is to focus on the true meaning of the season … adoration of the greatest gift humankind
has received. He is the Christ! He is
our Lord! Come … let us adore Him. Put
aside all the other trappings of the season … and see Jesus.
Of course, Helen First is
not the only gathering of believers. Many
of you will go to your own local body of believers and worship together. Together, we will sing praise and give honor
to God for the coming of our Savior and our Lord. God bless all of you this good, good day.
Agape’
Mr. Jim
Prayer: Father, as we gather
together this day, help us to once again give true worship to You for the gift
of Christ Jesus and the salvation we find in Him. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Scripture for today: Luke
2:16-20
