Daily Thoughts To Think About

Finally, brothers, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellance, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. - Philippians 4:8

Light

Good Morning!

Light.

Have you ever considered how important light is to each one of us?  We use light all the time … sometimes without even realizing it or appreciating it.  But, if you have ever been in a situation where there was no light, you begin appreciating every ray.

God often uses the word “light” to describe Himself in the form of Christ Jesus. Below is one instance that is very familiar in our Christmas season …

The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
    on them has light shone.
– Isaiah 9:2

John, the beloved disciple, begins his gospel with references to the light …

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life,[a] and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
  … and

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.

Jesus spoke about light when He was talking with Nicodemus …

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.

Finally, Jesus made this proclamation as recorded in John’s gospel, chapter 8 …

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

“The Light of life” is found in Christ Jesus, our Lord.  He wants to shine brightly in each one of our lives … revealing and guiding us along our journey.  Twenty-one centuries after His advent on this earth, the Light of our Lord still shines brightly among those who walk in darkness. God sent His Light to us for us.  Let us embrace this Light, not only in this Christmas season but throughout every day of our lives.

Prayer:  Thank You, dear Father, for the Light of Christ that shines brightly in this dark, dark world. Let Your Light shine in me so that I might clearly see.  Let Your Light shine through me so that all You bring in my sphere of influence will see Christ … and glorify You. In Jesus’ Name … Amen.

Scripture for today: Isaiah 9:2; John 1:1-5, 9-10; 3:16-21; 8:12
